Protein Waffles for the Family

Protein waffles are made several times a week.  I make them in big batches and the family eats them in big batches with a family of five active members food goes quick.  Mimi loves waffles and calls them waffle pancakes. Whether their pancakes or waffles they are called waffle pancakes and she asks for them daily. So, I like to keep them available all the time.

I used to make us separate waffles; mine protein and hers from the bag at Sam’s club. The main reason was the cost of protein.  I figured out how to make a big batch that is family friendly and my kids actually prefer them now.  They actually will say, “Mom, what happened to the other waffles.” It’s funny how when you eat good food you crave good food.

This makes a really big batch so I often freeze them in separate baggies for easy grab n go breakfast. It doesn’t take long and once you get into the waffle flipping groove you’ll wonder why you didn’t make your own sooner.  Give this easy yummy recipe a try and let me know what you think of this cost-effective protein waffle recipe.

I find that people think eating healthy is expensive but I think that is just an assumption.  If you broke down the savings from making your own, especially in bulk, you would save a considerable amount yearly.  Eating healthy does not have to be expensive. That is why I really like to use MomSanity Mom Fuel Vanilla Protein. It is affordable for families and the ingredients I can trust to use in for everything my family eats.  When I buy protein I usually buy one for shakes and one for baking.

I love to top it with Lakanto Maple Syrup. I’ve told you in the past why I have switched to Monk Fruit Sweetener instead of sugar for my families baking needs and they have not noticed the difference in the least.

Protein waffles are really easy to meal prep and also to make in advance.  They are also something that is associated with not being a diet food which is hard to get my Bible and Bootcamp Beauties out of the mindset of restriction.  We cannot live our life on a diet but we can make better choices.  These waffles are not as convenient as you just add water but the taste is worth the effort.

My Fitness Supplements Recommendation

My Favorite Supplements

I have heard good, bad, Safe, unsafe, junk and clean but there are so many supplements out there which one is the one for you? Honestly, I have no idea, but I have tried, tasted and trashed lots of supplements in the last few years.

Although, I prefer natural sources or to eat my calories. I have found some supplements that I would recommend for those who don’t have the time, availability or options to eat food they need. Supplements are available to increase what we lack to have in our diet or because of age degenerate or give us more convenient options. No matter the reason to have supplements in your diet. I put my recommendations together because I often get the question, “What supps do you take?”

Pre-Workout

I have found and tried my concoctions, nasty alternatives, but one of my favorite and what I highly recommend pre-workouts is Ujido Matcha Energy Drink Mix makes me feel amazing, and I believe in the ingredients.

Now the debate with supplements is if they have what the ingredient label says. It is unregulated meaning companies can put whatever they want in the container and label it otherwise. At the end of the day, I can’t say 100% yes what is on the label is what’s in the container.  I do know the ingredients that are labeled are great, clean and healthy sources of energy. The company Ujido is known for providing a higher standard of matcha ingredient source. I believe in the company and love the effect when I take “Matcha Energy” pre-workout.

During Workouts

I also really love Collagen endurance for pre/during workouts. It gives me amazing natural energy with no crash. My stomach is sensitive to artificial sweeteners, so I have to be wary. That’s why I love Collagen Endurance not only is it easy on my digestion it’s great for healing my gut health because of the collagen. It’s a win-win!

During Workout my workout I usually drink water, BCAAs or . I typically try to time my eating around my workouts so that I don’t need to drink a supplement. Sometimes you are low on energy and need a kick, and that is when Can’t beet this or Collagen Endurance is the excellent solution.

BCAAs

I sometimes use BCAAs during workouts. BCAAs are Branched Chain Amino Acids they are essential acids meaning your body needs them. Leucine, isoleucine, and valine. They occur naturally in the body, but because of lifestyle and stressors. We usually don’t get what we need especially when following a weightlifting regimen.

BCAAs give your skeletal muscles what they need while you are training.  They contribute to preserving your glycogen stores offering you the energy you need especially in strenuous workouts which is what glycogen does-gives our energy.  Making sure that your glycogen stores are at full capacity also helps with muscle development.  If you have the essential acids, you need that you receive from BCAAs your body is less likely to break down the muscle protein that already exists to use for energy and uses the BCAAs that you have supplemented.  BCAAs are allowing you to have greater gains and maximize your workout potential.

I love MomSanity BCAAs they are usually recommended for post workout very similarly to help you recover.  Combined with a good source of carbohydrate can increase the potential and effect of the BCAAs. Yes, I said eat carbs, especially post workout. Carbs are right for you and if eaten correctly and proportionately can help your post-workout recovery.  How much do you need? On average about five grams of BCAAs is helpful to recover. I choose Momsanity BCAAs again because the ingredients are clean less than seven ingredients they taste good and they work.

POST WORKOUT

I try to eat food post workouts it is the best way to fuel your body, but that is not always available or convenient. I still have a Funnel filled with either Nuzest Protein Powder, Nuzest Fruit & Veg or Nuzest Vita Quick. When I was prepping, I would have all three because my coach was about 45 minutes from my house. It was nice to have a clean, lean source of protein ready to go for those long rides home, got my fruits, veggies and vitamins all in one shake.

I discovered Nuzest about two years ago when I thought that supplementation was necessary to be a fit person.  According to Instagram, that’s the thing to do. I needed to find a Protein that didn’t aggravate my stomach because of sucralose or other artificial ingredients.  I also don’t do whey or casein (same thing pretty much) because of lactose intolerance. Navigating plant-based proteins was not exactly fun, but once I tried Nuzest, I was hooked.  It has less than seven ingredients, so creamy and smooth and a high source of protein.

The Problem with Shakes

The problem with protein shakes is they begin with junk. There are no regulations, and after you add you bananas, strawberries, veggies and almond milk they can be the reason you do not see the results you desire.  Most people just add the nutrition labels to their My Fitness Pal not accounting for all the extra’s the loaded their shake. Like I said I prefer to eat my calories and a loaded shake can be a calorie killer. Another reason I love Nuzest it starts off low calories and carbs because there are less than seven ingredients.  If you did want to add your favorite fruit and veggie mix, it’s not as impactful as other shakes.

Then my friends at Nuzest did one better they came out with Fruit & Veg shakes which are so delicious! I give them to Milah on occasion. Also, great for the winter time when it’s hard to find a lot of seasonal fruits. Nuzest has you covered with their Berry, Mint and my favorite coconut Protein Smoothie.

Collagen

I have written about the benefits of collagen before I can’t reiterate it enough. If you are over 25 years of age, you should be taking collagen daily.  As your natural collagen reserves are increasing as you age. This is probably one of the only supplements that I consistently take daily.  Usually, while I fast it helps me to get over cravings, headaches and hunger pains.

Meanwhile, providing me with the collagen that is depleting in my body daily as I age.  It’s great for heart, liver, digestive, skin, nails and hair and Great Lakes Gelatin is tasteless and hydrolysate meaning more concentrated and easily absorbed in your system.  If you don’t take any of my suggestions but this one it will help you tremendously in many areas of your health.

Vitamins

At one point I had to stop taking Vitamins because I was overdosing on Vitamin C and potassium due to my diet of mostly fruits, veggies and meats.  After analyzing my nutrition in my College Nutrition class. I found that I was at levels of 160-200% in some micronutrients primarily due to taking in addition to what I was eating a multi-vitamin.  I would only recommend a Multi-vitamin if you’re not getting a balanced diet to supplement what you’re lacking. If you eat all the colors, all the veggies and quality carbohydrates, and protein you may be overdoing it. It’s something that you should be aware.

I find in the winter my diet can have ebbs and flows of quality due to availability. I also tend to not eat as many salads as I do in the Spring/Summer months, so I do supplement with a Multi-vitamin.  My favorite Multi-vitamin is Smarty Pants Organics Womens Complete. Mostly because of the ingredients and the formula I use is specific to women offering Omega 3s, Probiotics, B12, D3 and Zinc which is great to ward off winter germs.  They also come in Vegetarian Gummies in Raspberry, Lemon Lime, and Grape that are tasty. They are not certified gluten-free so that you may be cautious.

So like I have said before. Ideally, I prefer food over supplements but when in need or out of convenience I have these products in my pantry and recommend them to anyone who asks. I figured I would write a post for those who don’t question but wonder.

Why I choose these brands?

I also am an affiliate or sponsored by these products. This post is not to increase my affiliate commission but to share with you what I use and the reason I have become an ambassador, affiliate or sponsored by these companies because I believe in their product.  I encourage you to do your research. See what works for you and hopefully give you the additional supplementation that you need. I also am confident if you don’t do your research and choose based on my recommendations that you will be completely satisfied.

Is there a specific criterion that you have when choosing supplements or is it an “anything that taste good” your deciding factor?

My blog is in partnership with all of these brands with the exception of Smarty Pants.  I make a commission off the affiliates links, but that does not affect my opinion. I chose these brands because I believe in the product and what they stand for. My Full Disclosure Policy

Protein Pancakes

This is a sponsored post. I received this product in exchange for a review there are also affiliate links that I make a commission. I make a commission off the links in this post and am a Nuzest USA Ambassador. I’d tell you if I didn’t like it and why. My Full Disclosure Policy

Pancakes, Bacon, and Eggs are like our Sunday morning go-to. I usually make a double batch on the weekend and freeze them for the lil diva’s breakfast during the week. I place each one in between parchment paper, so they are easy to pull out and toast just like your convenient frozen pancakes already made in the store. It allows me time in the morning to provide them with a homemade breakfast in minutes.

I have never really liked pancakes, but my daughters do. After flipping pancake after pancake and not being able to indulge in anything with wheat, guess what I want, crave, obsess? Yes, pancakes. You always want what you can’t have well not anymore. These pancakes are so easy to make, delicious and don’t add extra time and a whole lot of ingredients to your regular breakfast routine. I even had the kid and husband approved, and they gave it a two thumbs up. Since finding out about my wheat allergy, I have been making a conscious effort to eliminate wheat in my diet. I just feel so much better and can get the full benefit of living a healthy lifestyle.

These pancakes are a great alternative to your traditional pancakes. Its a very simple easy recipe to follow and most people have the ingredients.  I prefer to use plant-based protein powder, I use Nuzest Vanilla because I don’t do well with Whey because of my lactose intolerant and prefer not to have soy products. Nuzest Protein is more does not have lots of the artificial junk that can be found in most protein powders. Just as a personal preference. Like I said, these pancakes taste like the real deal. You can top them with your favorite fruit, nuts and I used Lakanto Maple Pancake Syrup, which is Sugar-Free, Calorie Free and tasted pretty decent its junk free made of Monk Fruit Sweetener. I have had sugar free pancake syrup before, and this is the best one yet.

Lemon Protein Mug Cake

If you love Lemons you will love this Lemon Protein Mug Cake! I love lemon! I have so many Lemon Recipes on my blog it has to be kind of apparent.  For the last three years, I have asked for a Meyer’s Lemon Tree for my Birthday to no avail maybe this will be the year I get it-hint hint fam! But even if I don’t fresh lemons will always be in my kitchen available to make a yummy treat and so many other benefits!

Lemon water is a popular fitness trend but do you know why?

Benefits of Lemons you may not have heard

There are lots of benefits to lemons but here are a few that people don’t often mention:

1.Great for Digestion-

That’s why the Lemon Water Trend began in America we are always looking for a solution to our digestive issues. According to Fox News Health, About 74% of Americans experience daily Gastrointestinal Discomfort. Some people are now looking for natural remedies and adding lemon- even if it’s in the form of Lemon Water to your diet can help aid your digestion. Lemons are an excellent source of soluble fiber which especially in the form of pectin which is a soluble fiber that helps slow down the digestion of sugar and starches meanwhile reducing your blood sugar levels.  You need to ingest a lot of lemon pulp and skin to get the fiber benefits lemons to offer.  That is why most people use juiced lemon to help increase their lemon pulp intake. Although, that is the theory most people don’t juice the required amount of lemons to help improve gut health if they did they would help with their digestion.

2. Great Anemia protection-

Any fruit that contains Vitamin C and Citric Acid is a great addition to someone who is trying to absorb iron that occurs in plant foods.  Helping people absorb more iron from their foods can be helpful for those who are Iron deficient.  Veggies rich in Iron like Kale, Greens, Broccoli coupled with lemons can be a powerhouse in getting helping with iron absorption from plants instead of animal sources of iron.

Adding more lemon to your diet will help you get the absorption from plant sources that is harder for us to absorb than animal sources of iron.  Helping add protection against anemia.

3. Great to prevent kidney stones-

According to News Medical Life Science, “They noted that there was an over four times rise of kidney stones among women and the incidence had doubled among men over these three decades.” Mostly because of the overprocessed American diet and our body and the lack of water and overconsumption of oxalates in our foods.

Lemons are a great natural remedy for chronic kidney stones.  Studies have concluded that the high levels of citric acid found in lemons help to increase urine volume and pH which makes it less likely for kidney stones to form. Consuming a minimum of half a cup of lemon juice daily can have these positive preventative effects on kidney stones.

4. Great for weight loss

This is probably the most common reason I found people drinking lemon water because they believe it helps them lose weight.  It does but not to the extent that you think. Studies have revealed Lemons have polyphenols (which I have written about before) that helps you lose weight but a healthy diet and exercise is necessary to achieve quantifiable results.

5. Great for your teeth

Studies have shown, The chemical properties of lemon are great for tooth pain, cleaning and cleaning your mouth naturally.  Seek a toothpaste with lemon in it or add a drop to your mouthwash routine. It’s great to eliminate the bacteria in your mouth and neutralizes bad breath.

6. Great for Internal Bleeding

This is something that really surprised me in my research. Lemons contain an antiseptic and coagulant effects that have helped stop internal bleeding.  Some people use it as a remedy for things like nosebleeds because of the coagulant effect.  Put some lemon juice on a cotton ball and apply to a nosebleed and watch it magically stop.

7. Soothes Respiratory Disorders

Lemons are a rich source of Vitamin C which makes them great to combat respiratory issues and breathing problems.  Drinking lemon juice in water, diffusing Lemon essential oils can help assist with breathing and respiratory disorders.

Not only does lemon have all these and so many more benefits but they taste great too!  Give this 90-second mug cake a try next time you are looking for a delicious lemon treat.

Were there any facts that surprised you about lemons?

Chocolate Peanut Butter Nice Cream Sandwiches

ProteinNice CreamSandwiches

National Chocolate Ice Cream Day Tease with Nice Cream

Today is National Chocolate Ice Cream day which was bittersweet! Oh, how I would love to indulge in a Chocolate Fuge IceCream Sundae with Wet Walnuts, and Caramel Syrup.  (Imagine me Homer Simpson drooling) But that is no longer the case for me.  After many years suffering from digestive issues, I have found the culprits are Dairy Products and Wheat Products through the process of elimination and a prick allergy test. Can I tell you how much that STINKS?

I love dairy things cheese especially but all inclusive of yogurt and of course ice cream.  I could do without a glass of milk which my mom used to make me drink every morning before school, and I would complain because I told her it made me feel stick to my stomach.  I think if we knew then what we know now I would not have suffered from digestion pain for so many years.

Substitute, Alternatives and Replacements

Now, there are such great alternatives that I have found at our local grocers. My absolute dairy-free ice cream is So Delicious Turtle Trails. I could sit and eat the whole point but trying to be focused on my goals. So, I tried this easy yummy dairy-free ice cream sandwich treat that everyone enjoyed.  If you’re a Pinterest Junkie like me I am sure you have heard of “Nice Cream” it is ice cream made out of frozen bananas.

I have created some good nice creams (I posted my Strawberry the other day), and I have created some awful flavor combination but after being at a Fitness Convention for four days it motivates you to make better choices. I am planning out my next six-week goal I decided to make a Protein Nice Cream.  It was very simple and just what I need to fill my Ice Cream craving.  Let me know what you think of it?
