Why switching to a Biblical based diet worked for me?

Changing to a Biblical Based diet

In the last few years, so many things have changed for me inside and out.  My perspective I think has had the greatest change in my life.  I think through my seeking God to help me, trusting in Him and be grateful in the moment has revealed lots.  What I think has become more than just a habit but a lifestyle change for me is eating a Biblical based diet.

Through Bible study and my own, I have researched in the great instruction book for life, the Bible.  Where all questions are answered. So, when people ask what should I be eating, drinking, shaking you can take it back to the Word.  God has something to say on that subject and I promise you Hot Pockets is not on it.

What Should I eat?

Now, grains, vegetables, and meats that come naturally from God’s earth is but we were not meant to be putting the extra additives that are added to Hot Pockets to fuels God’s good creation.  So, when flipping through the good book even if you start from the beginning very quickly after man is created he is instructed on what he can eat.

Genesis 9:3 “Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.”

Genesis 9:3 made it easy. All of those things can be found at your local grocers around the outside parameters.  I didn’t see any reference that the food that can be found in “Aisle 9” on the list.

What’s your definition of convenience food?

I don’t think that we appreciate that meats and vegetables are in this modern time prepared for our convenience. They come pre-cut meats and fish as well as pulled and washed fruits and vegetables. For most of American Society that is not convenient enough.

We now see it as a chore to take the precut meats and veggies and fruits and then prepare them.  We want it already prepared, fast, and ready to serve.  Still even with the convenience of not having to slaughter our food. We still “need” to have to be completely prepared and already cooked.

We would prefer driving up to a window, placing our request to our specific likes and receiving it cooked, hot and truly ready to eat. That was me Drive Thru Junkie and I spent most of my time in the car and very little time enjoying things of life other than my children.

29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so. Genesis 1:29-30

Then I found myself with post baby and some “extra bad decisions” weight and no one to blame but me.  I know that I needed to changes some habits and do things differently and possibly be inconvenienced.

It’s hard to eat “clean”

I remember how daunting it initially was to prepare every meal AT HOME or to have things for the girls to take to school or sports, just snacks. Making a lifestyle change meant ceasing to rely on Hot Pockets and Goldfish for food and adopting better options that God has provided.

Once I figured out a list of do’s and don’ts (taking straight from the Word) in Leviticus 11 and how to prepare it took time but I made changes.  So, that’s what I did trial and error. A few bad meals here and there that eventually became delicious and you never missed the extra additives. Meal prep and preparation was quicker. And I began seeing miraculous effects on my body that did not only involve weight loss.

7 Reason I maintain a Biblical Based Diet

  1. 1. I feel AMAZING!

I believe it is why I have the energy to do all that I do each day and go to bed beat.  No longer the highs and lows of sugars and processed foods. My skin has also cleared up! I have not changed my skin care routine just the things I eat. I’ve gone from lots of dark marks to just a few and it’s nice to not do anything or pay anything extra for skincare just needed to eat right.  “It was written all over my face.”

    2. I know longer suffer from seasonal allergies!

Seriously, people didn’t believe especially my family until they witnessed it themselves.  I have suffered since I was a child with seasonal allergies. I had to get an allergy shot every week to just maintain some sort of normalcy on top of daily allergy medicine.

Since changing how and what I eat. I have not taken any allergy medicine, no sniffles, no itchy eyes, or scratchy throat. In my entire life, I have never gone through spring or fall without symptoms.  The allergist probably still needs to confirm but I do know that I only eat whole foods and other than that nothing has changed.

    3. I know longer have digestion issues!

I used to always complain after every meal “my stomach hates me.” Since going Whole or Biblical I only have complaints when I eat things that I am allergic to or are heavily processed.  A survey stated that over 74% of Americans who were surveyed complain of digestive issues.  For me if it’s something that is, “Just add water” makes my tummy HURT! But since eating a Biblically based diet I can eat without remorse ant that in itself has been worth it.

    4. I have amazing energy!

Seriously, I no longer need coffee I  just drink it for the taste. I used to be dependent come 2:30-4:30 I would be wiped out and no longer able to have energy for the day. When I eat well I feel well and I have the energy to power through my day!

    5. I have lost weight!

If you have been following my journey you have seen the transformation but if you haven’t I’ve lost 70 lbs within 18 months. My Drive Thru junkie diet was a direct correlation with my weight and how I felt. Since switching to a Biblical Based diet,  It has also propelled my weight loss and allowed me to achieve my goal faster than most. Nutrition is 80% of the journey. I exercised to lose the weight but by eating what God has provided has helped me tremendously. It’s actually made it simple when making food choices.

    6. It’s simple!

Eating a Biblically based diet is easy. I don’t stress organic or ecological we focus on perishable.  The most complicated part is how to eat a Biblically based diet and still enjoy the foods you love. It’s is possible! I would love to show you how.  In our Bibles and Bootcamp, we spend two weeks exclusively on how we fuel our temple.

    7. I feel I am honoring my temple!

This is the best benefit of them all.  I am honoring my temple which gives me the energy to care for others, love others and share God with others and that is what we are called to do.

Changing to this lifestyle has changed my life, health, and mind and I want to share it with you.  If you need help with Nutrition, Fitness and how to make it a lifestyle change that will stick.

Living the GF Life

faithfueledfeature

Okay, guys! I may be going all into living this gluten free life.  Seven months ago I was tested for my allergies and among the seasonal allergies that I already knew of wheat and peas was one of the allergic reactions I had.  When I was in my teens, I had an allergy test with the same results but didn’t think anything of it. When I was 16, I didn’t care about my allergies and until that day didn’t realize the effect of ignoring my allergy had on my body.  I used to say regularly, “My stomach hates me,” after every meal.  I would get horrible headaches, itchy scratchy throat, constant post nasal drip always clearing my throat.  I always associated the throat and nasal to my known indoor/outdoor allergies.  I never thought it could be from the things I was eating.  My stomach aches the doctors could never figure out until now; I did a blood test for Celiac Sprue disease, elimination diet which I realize I was lactose-intolerant, but no one could tell me why I would bloat and have horrible stomach pains. I also had terrible acne and scarring.   That was about eight years ago. So, when I went to the doctor months ago and brought it up to a new doctor led me to get allergy tested.  Do you know how good it feels for someone to tell you your not crazy?

Wheat Allergy

According to the Food Allergy Research and Education,

Differences between Wheat Allergy and Celiac Disease or Gluten Intolerance

A wheat allergy should not be confused with “gluten intolerance” or celiac disease. A food allergy is an overreaction of the immune system to a specific food protein. When the food protein is ingested, in can trigger an allergic reaction that may include a range of symptoms from mild symptoms (rashes, hives, itching, swelling, etc.) to severe symptoms (trouble breathing, wheezing, loss of consciousness, etc.). A food allergy can be potentially fatal.

Celiac disease (also known as celiac sprue), which affects the small intestine, is caused by an abnormal immune reaction to gluten. Usually diagnosed by a gastroenterologist, it is a digestive disease that can cause serious complications, including malnutrition and intestinal damage, if left untreated. Individuals with celiac disease must avoid gluten, found in wheat, rye, barley and sometimes oats. Learn more about celiac disease>

People who are allergic to wheat often may tolerate other grains. However, about 20 percent of children with wheat allergy also are allergic to other grains. Be sure to ask your doctor whether foods containing barley, rye, or oats are safe for you or your child to eat.

Living the GF Life

Now I am living the Gluten-Free life. Not because I have a gluten intolerance because it is easier than living wheat free. Gluten-free products (the real deal certified ones) contain no wheat. I don’t have to think about it and as a mom of three that makes my life easier. From skin care, shampoos and conditioners, and of course foods I try to buy gluten free products. As a result, I no longer have the ailments I had before; my skin is so much clearer now, and I feel better.

Happy 1 Year Anniversary

1 Year Anniversary.

“A year from now you will wish you had started today.”-Anonymous

It has officially been 365 days! Today, one year ago I woke up, and I had enough! Enough excuses, enough regret, enough neglect, enough believing the lies of the enemy.  I woke up, and I said I must change now! The week before I had dabbled in a fitness routine.  It felt great but today last year I wanted to do more than just dabble. I wanted to commit. I wanted to commit to a healthy lifestyle.  Now, if you have been following me along the last year, you know that this is not my first weight loss journey. So, what was so different this time around? I did it before so what’s the big deal.  All the times before I was seeking weight loss for vanity reasons. I wanted to be a Size X, I wanted to look like so and so, I want people to see me as blah, blah, blah and honestly WHO CARES!

Who I was

I look back on the empty person I was, and I am so grateful for God’s redemption. This journey has been so much more; this has been the results of an ongoing relationship with God. That is the celebration today. I didn’t do this by myself I did this with God. There were so many days I prayed to him for His help through this journey, His self-control, His provision and His unconditional love. This was a daily intentional relationship with God to Honor My Temple. It has grown my faith in Him so much. It has defeated my anxiety, bouts of depression, obsessive-compulsive behaviors. I have never felt so fulfilled in my life.

Finding Purpose

The other thing that has changed this past year is my purpose.  For the last thirteen years, I have been searching, lost in this world, grasping at anything but the only thing that could fulfill me.  I have tried to overcome with bad habits, smoking, drinking, partying, over training, under eating, overeating, negative self-talk, negative to other people, selfish ambition.  Not one of those fruits has been of the Spirit.  It wasn’t until Jesus found me in a broken place, a rock bottom, despair and anguish were my friend that He picked me up, brushed me off and kissed me and then began this year of healing.  This journey has been my inside matching my outside as I yearn to know, grow and glorify Him.

1 Year Anniversary

The Last Year’s Reflection

In this last year, I have learned how to do fitness better. This journey has done so much for me and my life more than weight loss. It has improved my dependence on God, strengthened my marriage, help me find my calling and ignited a passion for teaching others how to honor their temple. It has been an incredible journey. I have had an amazing network of women and men who have cheered me on, cheered me up, prayed for me, and inspired me. I have met other peoples who like me want to teach others how to Honor their temple and glorify God!

I have been called to go to school AGAIN and get my degree in Fitness Exercise Science and an NASM certification so that I can be in the trenches walking with others and teaching them how to honor their temple with God. I created this blog “FaithFueled™” before I even knew what it means the name came to me in a dream. Here I am a year later with a precise definition.

This is the beginning of a new journey now. Can you imagine where I will be in a year, and my husband has joined me in my next Fitness Goal it’s going to be a BIG ONE? I plan on showing others the FaithFueled™ Lifestyle, which is God First! Witness through fitness; glorifying God through living a healthy lifestyle fueled by faith.

1 Year Anniversary

So, I say “Start now, a year ago you would be glad you did!” What got you started on your journey? Whether it be career, projects, weight loss whatever what got you started?

Changing My Story

Honor Your Temple

Finding a better way

Behind every picture is a story; We all know that and looking at the last few years of my life pictures I definitely have one to tell.  August 1, I woke up and decided that I had enough with my current health. I was eating well enough, but I still was over indulging on sugar, my portions were ridiculous and using my boredom as an excuse to nibble on snacks.  I didn’t feel content in the body I was in, it didn’t match the image in my head. So, I decided to do something. I posted about how I found Beyond Fit Mom, and how I was making changes in my life. Well here I am 60 days later and I have totally created a new lifetime habit. I wanted to blog about this because there are a lot of mom’s who have shown the before and after but not a lot that shows the during. Its hard to relate to someone who has already found the results that you seek. I am here (at least for now) everyday doing the work to get the body that I will help me live a healthy lifestyle.

Total Weight Loss So far

Before, I had my third daughter I was visually in good shape but I had horrible eating habits. I also worked out several hours a day, which was great when you have two school age children but when you have a new baby its not that simple. BFM, was essential in my life because it allowed my workouts to be efficient. I was  about 60 pounds overweight and I have a goal to lose it by Christmas. I am very goal driven and it was the only way that I was going to get my life back in order. So, the first 30 days I did the workout followed the nutrition and lost a little less than 14 pounds, my husband was a great motivator and accountability partner. The second 30 days, my husband who is a school teacher and wouldn’t be there to cheer me on so after prayer, I had the God idea to Honor My Temple through a prayer challenge. I partnered with a Fitness Specialist and together we prayed and through social media involved others to help us honor our temple through prayer. It was life changing for me. When I went to God with my issues not only was I stronger and achieved more I grew my relationship in Christ too.

30 Day Isagenix Cleanse

Cleansing my temple

Another, life changing experience I had this month was a 30 day cleanse. I have never cleansed before and after speaking with my friend I was convinced that a 30 day cleanse would be a great way to jump start this change in eating and exercising. I totally thought I was ready, I was not ready at all. The first two weeks, I had a wedding and 2 birthday parties to attend which I was pretty strong willed and did very well I didn’t eat any of the no no foods and only drank water the entire time. Now, I would like to say this was my own strong will but in all actuality it was through prayer that I was able to achieve this feat. Now, the last two weeks were probably the hardest. I was over this restricted lifestyle change, I was ready to indulge, fall is here and all the smells and food were enticing me to quit. It was only through my strength in the Lord that I was able to continue and not submit to temptation. It seems cheeky but I really did pray my way through and I had amazing results.

How did I get here?

In 18 days I lost 6 pounds and 24.75 inches all over my body.  I lost all of this through eating correctly, working out 3 days a week and daily prayer. I want to emphasize there were no wraps, no magic pills, I ate non processed protein and produced and sweated three days a week for 20-30 minutes each day without fail. Even when I weighed 128 pound I did not feel this good. I have so much energy, my memory has improved, I just feel so much better about myself. The best part through this entire journey is that my faith and trust in God has multiplied and I am now living a completely aligned life. I have always sought balance and now I have achieved it and will probably continue down this road for a lifetime.

What have you done in your life to change your story?

My journey so far and still have 40 pounds to lose, please check back with me next month or follow my blog to see my continued progress.
