2 Minute Avocado Mug Cake

This is a sponsored post. I received this product in exchange for a review there are also affiliate links that I make a commission. Although I have received this product from Lakanto it does not affect my opinion. I’d tell you if I didn’t like it and why. My Full Disclosure Policy

Super Easy Mug Cake

It takes you longer to gather all of the ingredients than it does to make the cake.  This is something I found watching the PopSugar Channel made some adaptations because I didn’t have the ingredients and I wanted to try it with Nuzest Protein Powder that I love to bake and my tweaks were a success. I like this because unlike most mug cakes that can be kind of springy or dense this one is creamy and more cake like because of the avocado.  The original recipe called for limes and I used lemons because I prefer them over limes.  I also swapped out the sugar for a healthier option.

The Best Sugar Replacement

Monk Fruit Sweetener from which I met while I was at IdeaWorld and I have been obsessed with their sweeteners ever since.  If you have gone through my Sugar Detox and Devotion Program, then you know that I try to avoid sugar in cooking, baking, and eating.  Until now I have used date paste mostly as my sweetener, but sometimes you need powdery sugar like substance especially for cookies.  I also love that Sweetener has two ingredients, and you know that I am an ingredient snob, but the benefits of Monk Fruit Sweetener are also a great reason to replace your sugar substitutes.

Why is Monk Fruit Sweetener?

Monk Fruit is known as the immortal fruit in traditional eastern herbalism it is used to increase chi and well being.  It is now becoming more popular because it is an alternative sweetener that  “is natural, contains zero calories and is 100–250 times sweeter than sugar. It is also thought to have antioxidant properties;” according to Healthline.  Monk Fruit is a small melon like the fruit they are grown in Southeast Asia.  It has natural fructose and glucose which makes things sweet but the reason that monk fruit is 200 times sweeter than sugar is mogroside.  Mogroside is incredibly sweet but has a zero to low glycemic index it also has:

  • our bodies metabolize it as an herb,
  • anti-oxidants effects,
  • anti-inflammatory properties,
  • anti-cancer properties,
  • anti-diabetic properties,

There is the unknown fact of how much you need to consume to get these amazing benefits overall Monk Fruit Sweetener is considered a safe sugar alternative. I like it because it doesn’t have that nasty aftertaste of stevia or other sweeteners. It has no aftertaste at all. One thing I did have to get used to is how sweet it is I found it very very sweet and usually add half the amount of sugar required. Another thing you will find with Monk Fruit Sweetener is that they are packaged with Erythritol (a sugar alcohol) or inulin to cut down on the sweetness.   Brought it home to the family and it has replaced all of our sweeteners I’m glad I found this before the Holiday Season and think I am going to do a few other experiments. They have a Golden that is similar to brown, drops, powdered so many awesome options so that you don’t have to worry about your baking needs. If you’re out of Protein Powder or want to try here is a coupon from me!

7 Healthy Snacks to pack when your traveling

Whether it’s a bus, plane, car or train. It’s hard to think of healthy snacks that pack well my first go to would be, chips.  That’s because I just love chips and when spending hours idle I would love nothing better than to dive into a bag of Fried Pickle Chips.  I used to use traveling as an excuse to eat anything that I pleased.  It was a couple of years ago I realized that vacation eating makes me feel awful on vacation.  Feeling awful while on vacation is the worst that’s when you want to enjoy yourself the most. Not be laid up feeling ill because you overindulged. So, I try to maintain the same food we eat at home we eat when we’re away.  We do indulge, but it’s not a complete eating change.

Some snacks I like to take with us for the same reason anyone would bring snacks. It cost money on the road, and it’s a way to save and have the choice that you prefer by taking your own snacks.  So grab an insulated bag some ice packs and grab these:

Seven things to pack when you’re traveling.

1.Eggs

I usually make these first, and with my little diva’s and I, these are the first things to get devoured. We love Hard Boiled or Soft Boiled Eggs. I buy over five dozen eggs a week, so yes, it’s already a typical snack in my house.  You can make them ahead, stick them in the fridge and they have their own case.  Throw them in a resealable container, and you have a place to store your shells until you get to trash and away to keep your eggs from cracking on their own.

2. California Almonds

Easy to pack and easy to portion control.  23 Almonds are a serving if you want to get technical and almonds are a very satisfying satiating snack. Excellent source of protein, fats, fiber, and carbs it’s the perfect snack when eaten within the portion. It’s a great snack because it gives you the nutrient boost you need, very easy to grab and go and the crunch that you are sometimes searching.

3. Clean Lean Protein Bars

Protein and snack bars are great to travel with because they aren’t perishable, don’t have to worry about the mess and if you try Nuzest Clean Lean Protein bars you don’t have to worry about junk.  There are so many options on protein bars I am so glad that I found Nuzest.  They avoid process chemicals, and they also are conscious of sugar intake.  They come in some delicious flavors and are satisfying when on the go.

If you are looking to get more fruits and vegetable in, I also recommend the Good Green Snack Bar.  It is filled with nothing but dried fruit, pea protein and probiotic goodness that will keep your tummy happy.  Giving you the product you need even while traveling.

4. Clean Lean Fruit & Veg Smoothie

Eating more fruits and vegetables can improve your health, help you stay full longer and give you the micronutrients you need to fuel your body.  When you are traveling, you don’t often get healthy fruits and vegetable options. I love that these come in a bag because they pack really well can be taken anywhere, just add water or almond milk, and you have a nutrient dense smoothie that tastes delicious on the go.  A great travel companion. “Just Fruit and Veg helps you to increase your fruit and veggie intake in a tasty, convenient drink.”

5. Celery and Cottage Cheese Cup

My middle daughter Lailah aka Boo loves cottage cheese and celery. Actually, it’s her version of Ants on a Log with Cottage Cheese replacing the peanut butter.  We love Good Culture Cottage cheese cups, and I pack them with celery sticks and a mini package of raisins.  She can dip and bite or build her own. She’s ten so it’s not messy, but I wouldn’t let Mimi develop her individual Ant on a Log.  Another, a snack that curbs cravings and an excellent source of protein, fat, and fiber.

6. Popcorners

We love popcorn in our house.  I like to make it air-popped when I am at home but when on the go. I trust Popcorners. They have a variety of flavors less than seven ingredients and give you that salty popcorn crunch you often crave.  I find that these are great travel companions for anywhere you go and unlike other popcorn products you can trust the ingredients.  We have tried almost every flavor and is my little diva’s favorite.

7. Cucumber Bites

These are my favorite snack in general.  It’s nitrate-free deli turkey, plum or Roma tomato (for size circumference), avocado and cucumber.  Make it a sandwich cucumber as the “bread” it’s so satisfying and travels well too in a resealable container.

7 Ways to Correct my Squat form

Need to find ways to correct my squat form

I have been working on adjusting my squat form lately. Ever since I got out of the boot from my ankle injury my squat form needs to be corrected. It is awful guys! My foot turns out, my weight shifts and my arms fall forward its like textbook muscle imbalances.  I know from my recent NASM Corrective Exercise Certification what I need to do. The other day I was thinking, my corrections could help others too but first let’s talk about what happened?

What happened to my ankle?

Early in December, my first day of what was supposed to be my second Figure Competitor prep. I was training a Small Group at the gym I work at, and I was starting the warm-up. It was less than five minutes into the session when I did a hop off the ground maybe 3 inches (really it was a bunny hop) and came down and felt my ankle shift right and then left. It made the most awful sound like two gunshots.

Instantly, my entire gym stopped because like I said it sound like gunshots. I knew it wasn’t right but I was hoping it wasn’t “that’ bad”. Immediately, I lifted my foot up and started praying until I didn’t feel like I was going to pass out.  One of our members was like, “Oh good! Color just came back to your face.” It was unreal.

First Real Injury

I have never experienced a real serious injury.  I had a hairline fracture in cheerleading in high school that required a six weeks cast being young. I was in and out of the cast with little rehab afterward. Young bones heal quick. This injury I didn’t break a bone, well kind of, I tore two ligaments my anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL), which connects the front of the talus bone to the fibula, or shin bone. The calcaneofibular ligament (CFL), which connects the calcaneus, or heel bone, to the fibula. I also chipped and bruised my fibula because the impact when my bones hit each other when I came down and my ligaments popped.

The pain that I still feel at the end of the day is from the chipped bone and bruise that is still tender under pressure.  Bone bruises take months to heal. In the meantime, I need to keep my ankle in motion and continually work on correctives. Also, because of Worker’s Compensation limbo. I was in a boot for 5 weeks too long which caused other issues of muscle tightness and compensations.

Finding the good in everything-even an injury

The result is a really ugly and unsafe squat. Making sure that I perform a correct squat will prevent me from other injuries in the future.  Recovering from my lethal bunny hop has been mentally and physically hard.  It wasn’t the start of my new year that I wanted. Silver lining reflections, it has taught me a lot about appreciating my body for being healthy and functional. It is awful not to be able to do what you want with your body and can be very frustrating even for those who have lived most of their life impaired.

Thankful for the progress I have made

I am so grateful that I can walk unassisted and even jump now. My newest challenge has been consistently working on correcting my squat. Due to the last 7 months of overcompensations, I have to train my body again to have proper movement patterns. I thought I would have recovered quicker but I was in my boot for 5 weeks too long while seeking second opinions with doctors.

I was trying to avoid having surgery and wanted to take a conservative approach which included lots of physical therapy. In between waiting for things like workers compensation approval, appointment availability. My ankle was immobile 5 weeks longer than it should have been.  Ankles are meant to move and when they are in a static position for a long time they will lock up which is what I am working on now.

My left leg has extremely tight calves that won’t release my posterior talofibular ligament (PTFL), which connects the rear of the talus bone to the fibula. Laymens turns my calves are tight and won’t let my foot flex and point properly. My hamstrings also take on a lot of work because that’s what your body does it adapts. My right hip flexor and piriformis are overactive because it’s been taking on most the work for the last 4-7 months from me not using my left leg correctly. Without fitness geeking you out any further pretty much my kinetic chain is offline and I am pretty jacked up and so is my squat.

The Benefits of Squats

7 things to correct my squat and eventually progress it:

1. Rollout

Grab a foam roller and get to rolling and I am not talking. A casual few rolls back and forth and good to go.  SLOWLY. Apply pressure to your BACK OF CALVES (gastrocnemius) shift your leg side to side and then roll it out again, OUTSIDE “CALVES” (peroneal) do the same thing. Get your (biceps femoris) and your TFL or Tensor Fascia Latae that muscle gets a lot of action because it works in all planes of motions and pretty much you move it moves so make sure that you roll those out too.

Grab a good foam roller

I really love the Trigger Point Grid Foam Roller. It is really firm so it seems like fingertips as well as the tubular ridges on teh foam roller.  The flat side is like the palm of your hand when you really need to release tension from a muscle. It’s nice to hold it on the flat side for 20 – 30 seconds and allow the muscle to release. It’s great because of the pattern on the actual Grid foam roller channels blood and oxygen to the muscles which helps to repair and increase circulation.  A fantastic tool to use for recovery.

Remember, I said I have extremely tight calves. Most people do. We need to really work on loosening these easily, increasing circulation and blood flow and releasing tension from these small but mighty overactive muscles.  Just imagine how much work they get in there day to day activities. Calves are usually the culprit is something I have learned in training and through this injury.

2. Stretch

I know I always talk about stretching but it really is important and if you want to have a correct your squat.

A lot of people don’t stretch and when they do it’s only for a breath moment.  Most people stretch first and then foam roll second.  I would recommend to do these two preparation/recovery techniques in reverse- Foam Roll and then stretch.

My professor in college used this analogy that I tell anyone who is listening (or reading) thanks, Professor Amber Boyd.  “When you get a knot out of your shoelace. Do you pull the laces tighter or massage the knot out first and then pull on the laces?” I know AH-HA moment.

Always foam roll then stretch. So whatever you foam rolled once you’re done go ahead and stretch those muscles out that you rolled.  It also may not be the best idea to strength train them until another day but if you then make sure you foam roll and stretch at the end of your training.

Here are some suggestions on easy ones you can do for each of those muscles:

Stretching Calves

Stretching Bicep Femoris

3. Dynamic Stretching

Most people associate stretching with static poses that are held for brief moments of time.  I personally enjoy dynamic stretching and include it in my clients warm-up routine.  Activating the muscle that is UNDERACTIVE and preparing them to fire up while using movements that make them for the workout. These are the muscles that should be used but aren’t because the tight muscles or OVERACTIVE muscles are doing all the work and not letting them do their job correctly.

In my case since I have an ankle injury, it’s my Posterior Tibialis, Anterior tibialis and Medial Hamstring; I suggest about four reps starting off slow and then increasing the movement as you feel your body release tension.

KNEELING CHOPS

4. Start from the beginning

I started off Dowel Hip Hinge to make sure that I am aligned and keeping all points of my kinetic chain in line while Squatting.  Also, using physical cues by squatting on a bench with a reach to help with balance. It helps me make sure that my feet are correctly placed (shoulder width apart, with my big toe, lined up with my shin; and yes you feel knock-kneed you are doing it right). Hinging my hips properly and correcting forward lean as you see is still something that I am altering my squat.

5. Work on Counterbalance

I have an asymmetrical weight shift as you see in my picture. I also have limited Dorsiflexion which if you look at my left ankle you’ll see it’s not as flexed as the right side. These are the things that I look at in my clients and when I watch people working out at the gym. Little compensations in your movements allow to get the job done, but it’s not always getting the job done well.  Using offset weights is functional.

You usually carry your laundry, purse, groceries, and kids on the same hip (unless you have twins or lots of groceries).  That is your dominant side and probably stronger than the side you use less often.  It’s okay to pick up two different weights and balance yourself.  Also, in my case with weight shift, I like to do offset squats holding the kettlebell on my left weaker side to strengthen it and activate it during movement.  My right side will take over if I let it.  Here are two squats you can use counterbalance to fix compensations.

Offset kettlebell squat

6. Work on Front Loads

Working on front-loaded squats can be helpful to solve problematic squat forms.  When you have the load on the front, it helps you to consciously feel the right movement. The weight loaded in the front forces you to sit up straight and hinge back correctly.

Goblet squat (kettlebell or dumbbell)

7. Progress to a Correct Squat

Barbell back squat

Working on each of this exercise is to build up your strength and form. Doing these several regressions are preparing you to execute the Barbell Back Squat. Back squats are a great strength exercise that works most of the muscles in your lower body mainly, your quads, hamstrings, and glutes.

Barbell squat is an exercise that permits you to lift heavy loads throughout your entire body.  It helps strengthen your core as well as legs because you need to brace the load and protect your back when squatting.  It is essential to progress to this exercise and not begin with this exercise. Often poor squat form is the cause to back injuries, knee and neck injuries.

Barbell overhead squat

When your correctly and consistently Barbell Back Squat I would then progress to an overhead squat. Pressing the Barbell over your head as you squat.

It is critical when trying to correct your squat form that you follow the order and don’t skip around.  Each stage builds on the next. I would spend a lot of time starting from the beginning. Mastering those skills and then moving on to the future ability.  Proper patterning is vital so that when you progress to the more challenging squats, it comes with greater ease.

Also, don’t be afraid to progress. Don’t get stuck on skill because you’re scared of the challenge. Development is how change is made so don’t be scared to move on to the next skills once you feel really proficient. Correcting your Squat not only protect you from injury now it will help you function better in your future.

Is there a skill that you wish you were better at and want to correct?

Sweat Pink X Soulcycle

Sweat Pink X at SoulCycle

I just got back from a trip to San Diego, and I had so many new experiences that I want to share.

I tried Soulcycle for the first time before I attended the Idea World Blogfest and Convention 2018.

If you check out my recap, you can see how much I learned.  Something that as valuable as learning is the connections I made to other influencers in fitness and nutrition.

In the past, I have always been so rushed on the first day of Blogfest, so I intentionally came in a day early.

Time for Sweat Pink Sisterhood

It was an excellent opportunity to connect with other Sweat Pink Sisters who came early or lived close by Idea World Blogfest.  Fellow SPAs Carleeh of Healthy Socialite and Erica of Sprinkles and Situps organized a Sweat Pink Soulcycle class. Just joining my Sweat Pink Sisters would be exciting and honestly, I didn’t do any research nor did I ever see a Soulcycle class. The most I knew was that it was a type of Spin class which I haven’t taken in over ten years.  I just wanted to Sweat with other Sweat Pink women, so I was in.

Searching for Pre-Workout

I went with Shenie of Sheylu Fitness and J’Que of J’Que Now.  We got there early and went to the Pressed Juicery in La Jolla, CA.  I usually drink a concoction pre-workout that has a lot of Beetroot, cherry juice and Yerba Mate among other things. I was looking for something comparable at the Juicery.

After taste testing a few different variations beet and green juices (which I wasn’t even looking for but tasted some interesting, mixes anyways) and checking out labels. I settled on this to give me the pre-workout boost.

I thought I was going to need something to get me through the Soulcycle at 6:30p at night West Coast time. After flying since 5:00 am East Coast time.  Not sure if it worked but I got through the class. Soulcycle is not my comfort zone at all.

First, you have to wear these inverted heeled shoes that clip into the bike but unless fastened to the pedal just feel awkward.  In the gym, I train at we promote barefoot training so special shoes it’s not my norm.

A Couple First Times

A few Sweat Pink Sisters came in their Sports Bra which I didn’t think too much about until the class let out and the entire class was drenched strutting in Sports Bras.  Again, new to this thing and now thinking I may have needed to do some research. These girls were beet red, soaking wet and I had no clue what just went on in their class, but I don’t sweat like that lifting weights, so I was a little concerned.

What’s Soulcycle Like?

The room is dark! I would show you, but they HIGHLY discouraged phones in the Soulcycle room.  “We’re bloggers we need the photos,” but just imagine a bunch of spin bikes like 30. Really close together in a pitched black small room with mirrors lined on the front wall. No ventilation and two little small fans in the corner which did not get turned on.  There is one prominent spin bike, the instructor’s bike that is on its own platform. She controls the lights, music, and mic. Can you see it? Not really! I told them I needed a photo.

So, I get my bike adjusted to my height and get clipped in. Before I was ready I decided I needed to practice clicking out. Cardio is not my thing and I would not be considered your Cardio Queen.  I actually get really nauseous with intervals or anything that makes my heart race and then cool down quickly. I am scared to try Orangetheory for that reason because I don’t want to be the fit chick who pukes. Not a good look! I also gulped down that Beet juice so even worse look. My ankle that is rehabbing needed extra help getting out but all-in-all I knew my puke plan.

Oh my HOTNESS

So, I’m on the bike ready to go and in walks Janelle, our instructor, like right off an Instagram account. Hops on the bike and immediately takes command of the class.  Janelle put us to work and about 3 minutes maybe less of bobbing and weaving and basically dancing and pedaling-which takes coordination. Immediately, I ripped my tank over my head and joined the Sports Bra crew. I have NEVER been so hot in my life while exercising. I also have never worked out in public in my Sports bra. With sweat literally pouring out of me I just tried to survive this was just the first few minutes.

Not as Experienced as I look

I have to remind people that I haven’t always been fit. I spent most of my life getting by with being skinny until I had my lil diva’s and my metabolism revolted against me.  I’ve done Zumba, a few muds run, lifted weights and try to be a yogi from time to time. Other than that I am not very experienced with exercise. This was new!

Use your Core

My quads were killing me- I didn’t think I could make it through the entire class. Besides sweating from every pore of my body and feeling like I was on fire. Meanwhile, trying to pedal while bobbing and weaving-on beat. I was so out of my comfort zone.  I told my girl J’Que I didn’t think I could keep doing it and she said, “use your core.” Never even dawned on me-I was too busy trying to sync to Janelle’s “choreography”- I think it was choreography. Basically, I was trying to duck, dive and pedal on the beat.

The core is everything people, and I have worked on mine for some time now.  Engaging my core seriously helped and allowed me to finish the class.  It was a crazy hour of inspirational chat and shimmying, shaking and pop locking (just kidding didnt pop and lock). We did grab some tiny dumbbells and burn out our arms for a few minutes-that felt familiar. Finally a brief stretching. Hallelujuah! I survived-barely.

My Poor Booty

I think I could Soulcycle more if it weren’t so expensive but I would need a butt pad. For the next three days no matter what I sat on a pillow or a bench my butt cheeks-literally my cheeks were so sore. That is what I had forgotten about the spin-spin butt. Good Lord!

Photo Credit Carleeh Mulholland of Healthy Socialite

Fun New Experience

It was a fun and new experience, and I am glad that I got to share it with my Sweat Pink Sisters.  I want to thank SoulCycle in La Jolla, CA for hosting Janelle and us for inspiring, motivating and literally tearing my butt up.  I can now say that I have tried Soulcycle and you never forget your first time. Lots of first for me in just one class.

Have you ever tried SoulCycle? What was it like for you?

Idea World Blogfest 2018 Recap

Idea World Blogfest 2018 Recap

I am sitting here thinking about what my Idea World Blogfest 2018 takeaways are this year; This is my third year at Blogfest and saying it “exceeded my expectations” is not me exaggerating; it did!  I forgot about the sisterhood of Blogfest and how women who make time in their lives to book the flight and come out.

Some were there first time like myself two years ago. Others who have been there all five years; Whether its to reconnect or get introduced the #SweatPink Squad. The reason Sweat Pink is such a fantastic community is it is led by four amazingly, loving, hardworking women.

Fit Approach

Your tribe attracts your vibe, and it was so amazing to be in a room with phenomenal women of Fitapproach are passionate about making people healthy. Connecting influencers and bloggers with brands to use their voice to make an influence in living an active, healthy lifestyle. These women are so kind and to pull off an event to this magnitude that is helping improve fitness bloggers skills or empower them to be their imperfect, beautiful self is impressive.

Sweat Pink Squad

Alyse, Jamie, Nicci, and Liz are four beautiful women who just are inspiring on their own. They are Moms and busy women running their own fitness practices and blogs. Two of the leaders are Moms of tiny ones (like under two years). Vet Mom’s you remember those days.  Yet and still they pulled off the best Idea World Blogfest that I have been to in three years.

A room full of my people

The place is filled with a man (sometimes two) and women different ages, ethnicities, who like to do different things to get fit, there in various stages of getting fit, but they all know that somehow their unique difference could make a difference.

Jerod our honorary Sweat Pink Mister and My girl Vida from Healthy Curves Rocks

It’s funny when you sit down and have a 15-minute conversation with a person that you initially identified as a Social Media Handle. You learn their name and where they come from, and it all makes sense why they chose that handle.  Even more than that; you are inspired by who they are and just made a real-life connection with someone you would have never met before.

Sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone and say “Hi” to a stranger. You won’t get to meet a fascinating person. This was a big theme at Blogfest was “Get out of your own way” as well as embrace your imperfection which is how we began Blogfest.

Pictured with Mama Lifts and Chocolate Runner Girl

Perfection Detox

I think we all could use a little perfection detox. We are becoming a society that is ultimately anxiously pursuing perfection.  Petra Kolber really motivated and inspired us to embrace who we are and comfortable with that but always strive to be your best.

The Perfection Detox Books is Coming in August

She has a fantastic book coming out in August “The Perfection Detox: Tame your Inner Critic, Live Bravely and Unleash Joy.” We can all use a good read and some joy releasing. You should check it out when it comes in August 2018.

It was a great way to start our morning after our #TeachOnTheBeach workout on the beach with Fit Bodies, Inc. Fresh Coconuts got a little weight on them and fun and still challenging workout. My butt and abs intensely felt it.

Idea World Blogfest is Two Days

The second day of Blogfest was the busiest. I was grateful to start off with breakfast! Bells Institue representing General Mills was a great option to cater to my gluten sensitivity and dairy intolerant. I haven’t had cereal in forever and after getting my butt kick needed to refuel with a big bowl.

Also, had the delicious HiYQ which I am obsessed with and excited to see it in my local grocery store soon. I could eat it with no sensitivity issues, and it is creamy low sugar delicious goodness. I may or may not have stopped at their booth for a few cups. Okay, I did, and I’ve tried Coconut, Mango, and Blueberry. All delicious!

We even got tips on how to Instastory and props to use to take pictures of our meals. It was nice to see the creativity of other bloggers work.

Get out of your Own Way

I liked the previous years’ speakers; if I didn’t I wouldn’t keep returning to Blogfest. This year the speaker’s actionable information was beyond excellent. Todd Durkin who was the keynote at Idea World Blogfest 2017 is always inspiring and uplifting. It was nice to have Female fellow blogger, mother, wife and rockstar business women as our keynote was empowering.

Idea World 2018 Jack Lalanne Award Recipients

Heidi and Chris Powell received the Idea World Jack Lalanne Award handed to them by my favorite lady Elaine Lalanne who I met at 91 and is now 92 years young since I have been attending BlogFest.

Learning about Heidi

Heidi Powell was real and just told her story straight off the cuff. She is a real as you and I and has had struggles and lived in imperfect life like everyone walking on this earth. Who she is on her Instagram story is who she is in real life so that was to be expected but it’s just different when you meet people in person.

I had a fangirl moment with her when she complimented me on my arms, like “Heidi Powell just complimented my “guns.”

It’s one of those things that “I never thought this would or could happen to me,” moments.  It’s not why I started, and now I am here in the best shape of my life. All because when I came to IdeaWorld Blogfest two years ago. I was inspired to take care of my body and to become a trainer to help others do the same.

Getting to Know Heidi

Getting to learn how Heidi’s hard work, business skills and determination helped her overcome her circumstances. Together with her husband Chris who is apparently without her saying it her best friend, business partner and love her life.

Photo Credit Carleeh Mulholland of Healthy Socialite

When Heidi spoke, she motivated me because I know she could completely relate to me. I would love to make the impact she is making on people’s health. Heidi and Chris Powell are two visionaries that work well together and compliment each other.

The two of them are actually helping people live their best life through health and fitness.  AND she is a Mom who is there every day for her four children and best friend husband, Chris Powell.

Takeaways from Heidi Speaking

It makes you think it can be done; it takes time; be who you are; live out your passion and create a life that makes a positive impact on other people’s live. That is my takeaway from Heidi speaking.

Learning how to Make Love to the Camera

I saw new and old connections between bloggers. Each year I meet someone who has been there before, but I really never really got to talk to the last trip.

This year I felt there were great opportunities to connect with each other and network. I loved in the past when we had peer group chats. We did video interviews with each other giving feedback and working together.

Making Better Videos

After hearing fantastic information about how to “Make love to the camera” by Gigi Ashworth of Gigi Eats Celebrities. I learned so many actionable, valuable tips on how to improve my video presence. I am planning on applying them to my new IGTV.

Broken down step by step

From idea conception, Gigi gave us the step-by-step guide to executing a video that is unique to you. In an hour and a half. We learned step by step how Gigi creates her Vlog post.  In the future, I will be practicing what I learned.

Getting Hacks on Video Blogging

There was so much value the speakers presented at Blogfest which was great for both new and old bloggers. It’s nice to have step by steps from seasoned pro’s so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel.

I feel like a newbie blogger even though I am going on my fourth year. So, I appreciated the valuable information that Gigi brought with her fun personality that is just as endearing as her blog.

Her husband also made a cameo to talk about cameras. A cute couple can’t wait to see their little baby and see how Gigi Eats Celebrities with a baby.

The Difference between Idea World and Blogfest

What makes Blogfest different from IdeaWorld Convention? One Idea World Convention is classes, workshops, panel discussions, and certifications. It has also been happening annually for over 35 years. Blogfest is new it was introduced five years ago. At Blogfest you receive information about furthering your blog business, opportunities to learn and work with brands and we get fed.

Good Eats

The National Dairy Council gave us lunch which was great to get us through our jam-packed day. They also presented us with some significant research on the benefits of dairy that I didn’t know. It was a very informative delicious lunch.

Thank you for lunch National Dairy Council

Google Analytics Explained

I think why Idea World Blogfest 2018 exceeded my expectations is the caliber of the speakers. Kristine Beatty is a fellow Sweat Pink Sister, and during the day she is a Google Analytics master. Helping a business’ maximize their internet presence.

It was great to hear from one of your own Sweat Pink bloggers on something that she has passion and knowledge. Also, Google Analytics is a complicated spider web. I have been really intentionally trying to learn as much as I can and use it for blogging to work smarter not harder. Kristine thoroughly explained how to analyze, decipher and review your Google Analytics dashboard.

Sadie Nardini

I started following Sadie Nardini on Social Media earlier this year. Sadie is known for her Yoga Shred programs and her rockstar mohawk. She is women who decided to live life on her own terms. Do what she loves how she wants.

Her yoga is not traditional, but she has used her uniqueness to set her apart in a market that you can easily get overlooked.

She also has created an online business that allows her to make money her way. Sadie helped remove the trial and error of Online Fitness I have been struggling. She gave me clear direction and what I need to change about Bibles and Bootcamps and what I need to do.

From nuts to bolts Sadie broke it down so that anyone can start an Online Course with the skills they have and simple equipment.

I snuck away after her presentation to ask her a few questions about entrepreneurship, and she was so kind answering them all.  It was great that she let me have few minutes of her time.  I think that was another thing that made Idea World Blogfest 2018 better than years prior was meaningful connections.

Connection

I had a specific prayer the weeks leading to blogfest for God to give direction on Bibles and Bootcamps? Connections to my future and collaborations? God did not disappoint, but he exceeded.  I was sitting down rolling out my hamstrings because we put in that work the second day morning on Frog Fitness.

Idea World Blogfest 2018 Frog Fitness Workout from FaithFueledMom on Vimeo.

Another fun workout from a Blogfest sponsor that was a sweaty mess. It was fun working out with other bloggers watching us all trying to get in action shots is always funny.

Meeting Natalie Jill

Rolling out on the Grid from Trigger Point I looked up and caught the eye of Natalie Jill.  Serious fangirl moment! Natalie’s latest workout calendar is probably in my inbox now. Like other followers, I have watched her in her beautiful home; workout and make delicious recipes for over four years.

Her story is very similar to my own. I love how she is motivated to inspire women like myself to be confident in who they are.

Wearing Discover

I had to tell her how much she had inspired me. So, I walked up and introduced myself, and word vomited my story.  Where I had been, what I did and yes, even pulled out my before and after photos.  She was so kind, and her husband was too capturing this photo.

Do you see me in the pic? Yes, I am thinking is this really happening? Am I standing next to Natalie Jill?

It was nice to have the Trigger Point lounge which was a great place to have drinks, snacks and roll out in between Idea World Blogfest session. It was Godcidence we were there together, and I got to tell her how I am want to encourage others.

Trigger Point was so kind to gift me these foam rolling tools which are amazing.  I can’t wait to share with you all that you can do to release muscle tension and help you in your workouts.

Natalie’s Business Tips

Natalie gave us a lot of info in a short time about how to create and stood by what your brand is which was another ongoing theme.  I can so relate to her story and just like Natalie didn’t set out to be an influencer in fitness but through her own experience made it her work to help other women succeed too.

I also got to work out in person with a woman who I worked out with on YouTube and Facebook for countless hours years ago.  She kicked my butt literally my booty was singing at the end of her bodyweight workout. It’s always nice to get a workout with no weights necessary.

We had a painful (because I had really tight muscles) after the two days, yet much-needed rollout with the Trigger Point grid. I learned some ways to reduce muscle soreness and relieve tight muscles.

It’s Hard to Say GoodBye

We ended with a Networking Party, and it was hard to say goodbye to other bloggers we met over the last two days. Or to those that because of lack of time you just didn’t get to connect.  Although, we had brief encounters. I have some new Social Media friends until we get to connect at Idea World Blogfest, again.

There were so many sponsors throughout the two days that made the experience even more enjoyable through breakfast, snack breaks, and California Almonds.  If you needed something to nibble, they had perfect portions, and there were plenty of almonds available to refill our tins.

We also got a delicious sweet treat with Being Better Matters delicious chocolate protein squares. These little bars are just what you need for your sweet fix and I will be doing a giveaway for a box of my favorite flavor.  The Coconut Trail Mix is sinfully good!  We really were spoiled and loved on by all of our sponsors.

IdeaWorld Convention

The two days after BlogFest ticket, we also have access to the Idea World Convention 2018 and the Nutrition and Fitness Expo.

It’s like the Superbowl for passionate fitness professionals.  It’s an opportunity to work with and learn from the best in the Health, Fitness and Nutrition Field.

Workshops, Classes, and Certifications

While at the convention I took a course with Australian Trainer and Professor Mike Cunico. Other sessions I attended were mostly about Online Fitness business classes with Vito LaFata and Sadie Nardini.

Trigger Point Movement Prep-How to Integrate foam rolling

Marc Cunello taught us how to incorporate foam rolling in my training and group class programming. Marc is a respected sports trainer in the field.

I keep returning to IdeaWorld Blogfest because I keep learning and growing and working on this blog. Idea World Blogfest emphasized being my true self.

Getting to this point of my blog has been a journey in the last four years.  I am eager to put what I have learned into practice to improve my blogging skills and help others honor their temple.

There are so many other fun things at Idea World like opening ceremonies (but if you have gotten to this point you either have a passion for fitness too or I’ve given you a good recap of my four days in San Diego at Idea World Blogfest 2018.)

Opening Ceremonies

Opening Ceremonies always makes you cry to see over 14,000 passionated fitness professionals in one room. There is a Diversity of the many different countries represented around the world. All convening to learn to grow and become better in their field.

Chris Powell quoted a former boss of his saying that “Trainers who attend Idea World are passion trainers, not paycheck trainers.” You go there to progress in your field and to be surrounded by people of a similar agenda is motivating, confirming and empowering.

Welcome Party

It’s also fun to have the Idea World Epic Party on Friday night with lots of foods, drinks, dancing and having fun all dressed up not in leggings.  It’s a great way to start the Idea World Convention. It was so nice to get “purty up” with these ladies and get to know them a little better.

Blogging Boost

Blogfest is the needed connection, information and motivation to get through the second half of each year blogging. It’s also why I really want to help build their mission with Sweat Pink New Jersey to give opportunities for local fitness and active lifestyle influencers to experience the experience of Sweat pink.

Ultimately, Idea World Blogfest is about connecting, educating, and empowering healthy lifestyle influencers. Encouraging (mostly) women to be comfortable in who they are, grow their skills in blogging and make connections with like-minded people.

A group of women working together to spread a positive message to be their healthy selves. I think the women of Fit Approach are a fantastic job at building this community.
